Used Laptop Computers

Is it OK to buy a refurbished laptop online for my teenager?

I have seen several online resellers. But I wonder how reputable the businesses are and whether or not the cost savings is worthwhile. Are these refurbished laptops of significantly less qualiy than new notebooks that are much more expensive?.

  1. Generally, refurbished laptops are nothing more than a brand new laptop with a failed component that they replaced. Sure the warranty is not as long as a normal, but the overall quality of the components will be the same and you save some good money going that route. I would just make sure that they are factory refurbished and that you are buying from a reputible company. As long as you follow that, you should have no avoidable problems.
  2. I bought one off Ebay and I'm pleased with it, but one does need to be careful, especially if one doesn't have a good knowledge of computers to judge the running condition. A lot of times odds & ends will show up that the seller doesn't mention like a small corner crack that doesn't cause a problem on mine. In truth, it tends to be a gamble, but reputable sellers don't like bad marks. You are probably better off going w/ a new laptop.
  3. Sure why not, as long as you buy one that has all the specs your teen may need. But sometimes it may be better to buy new so you have a good warranty, laptop do have there issues if not treated properly
