Are refurbished laptops safe to buy?
Im trying to buy a decent(ish) laptop for a good price and have noticed that refurbished are usually much cheaper, but as the question states, are they safe to buy?

- Refurbished means used but supposedly put back in good working order for sale/
- Factory refurbished, yes. http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/home.to http://www.dell.com http://www.hp.com
- If it's from a reputable source.
- Only from the manufacturer I think. Don't trust eBay when sellers say that stuff is refurbished.
- As with anything second hand or refurbished "you pays your money & takes your choice" but if you intend purchasing a refurbished laptop make sure it comes from a reputable dealer & has some sort of guarantee.
- Yes they are safe to an extent, based on where you buy them from & what warranties they may carry. I recommend you look into what http://TigerDirect.com has available. I have never had problems with anything I have bought from them =)
- So long as they're factory refurbs, yeah... they're fine. Refurbished generally means that the unit was purchased and found to be defective for one reason or another, so the retailer gave the customer a new unit and sent the defective one back to the manufacturer... The manufacturer then repairs the unit/replaces the defective parts, and resells it as "refurbished". I've bought many refurbished electronics over the years... never had a problem, even with the refurbed Xbox 360 I own.
