Are refurbished laptops worth buying?

I am a college student on a tight budget. I would like something like a Studio xps 13, but it`s a little high for me (1,074. after a rebate) Thank you.

1. just make sure you have a good warranty before purchasing a refurbished pc,they seems to work good
2. no,I would not buy a refurbished,buy a new one with a year warrenty,you do not want to buy someones else problem,why do you think it was refurbished??something was wrong with it!!!!
3. My cousin got a powerbook for less than half of new. If it is returned for any reason, even if the recipient hated it and nothing is wrong with it, it may not be sold as new. Even if it is in an unopened box. It is pre-owned, so it is sold as refurbished It came with the standard one year warranty and an option to purchase a three-year warranty for $50.00.
4. Refurbished are often like car rentals -- returned when the lease was up. Sometimes they have been used by someone working for a corporation that went under. Mine works well and I got it from one of the national chains and I think that makes a difference as they offer same warranty as for new. Sometimes a refurbished is actually new from a box that was broken.
5. I've bought many of the refurb'd HP's from ecost.com and had excellent results. Even after warranty expiry, HP has comp'd repairs for defective issues with motherboards and hard drives! Astrobuf
